Why Theater at Opus?

We believe the magical world of the theater is for everyone! At Opus, we provide each student with a safe space to explore creativity and grow in confidence. Theatrical skills become valuable life skills, and we provide the groundwork for students to thrive as they find their unique voice.

Convenience

Schedule Theater, Music, Dance, and Art Classes at the same time, for different children, or back-to-back classes for one child.

Fun First

We want students to get excited about learning the art of acting. We do this by keeping our classes fun and low-pressure, while emphasizing self-expression and building confidence. Drama brings games, laughter, and humor to learning, which all improve motivation and help reduce stress.

Healthy Minds

Self Confidence & Trust: Taking part in class activities and social interaction enables even the shyest child to take risks and move outside their comfort zone. Performing in front of an audience teaches students to trust their ideas and abilities. This confidence is a strength that can translate to school, career, and life.

Communication Skills: Theater Arts enhances both verbal and non-verbal expression of ideas. It improves voice projection, articulation, pronunciation, fluency, and use of body language. Listening and observation aptitudes are also developed through drama games, rehearsals, and performances.

Imagination: Making artistic choices, thinking up new ideas, and interpreting material in unique ways are all essential skills. As Einstein said, “Imagination is more important than knowledge.”

Empathy & Social Awareness: Embodying characters from different time periods, cultures, and life situations promotes compassion and understanding of others’ feelings and viewpoints. Legends, myths, stories, poems, plays, and songs all teach students about social issues and conflicts from around the world, past and present.

Memory: Rehearsing and performing lyrics, movements, and cues strengthens this valuable skill like a muscle..

Emotional Outlet: Theatrical games allow students to express a range of emotions in a safe, controlled environment; this can build confidence in improvisational flow and reduce anti-social behavior.

Experienced Instructors

Our theater teachers are highly experienced, warm, gifted educators. Each of our teachers additionally has a theater degree and/or years of professional performing experience. Our staff go through a comprehensive screening and interview process to be certain they are the right fit for the Opus culture.
